I started at Furion in the Summer of 2016. This before picture was taken a month before I joined. I had very limited mobility due to previous injuries, and lack of body in motion. Fast forward one year to the second picture,I’m down 45 pounds, my mobility has greatly improved as well as my well being. Tremendous group of people I workout with and outstanding coaching staff. If your intimidated by CrossFit, as I was, try the three beginner classes. Experience the atmosphere of “The Box”, and possibly begin your journey to a better you.
My reason for coming to Furion….. there’s a lot of reasons. In January I wanted to start on a journey to a better, stronger, healthier me. For my wedding, my family, but most of all for myself.
I have a pretty strong personality when you get to know me but my confidence has been lacking immensely since I had my second baby. I couldn’t get the weight off and had pretty bad post-partum depression for probably about a year after Presley (my youngest) was born. This made it hard to push myself to do anything. Long story short, this January I knew I needed a change.
One of my patients had started Crossfit and wouldn’t stop talking about it so I decided to scour the area and see what was close. Along came Furion lol. I emailed and wound up talking to Carlo that same night and signing up for the beginners classes. To say the least, I LOVED IT. As soon as I walked through the doors and everyone welcomes you with open arms. No one judges (which for me was a big reason I hated other gyms) and they all cheer you on and have your back whether you are Rx+ or scaling your workouts.
Everyone is pushing themselves and each other to be better all of the time no matter where their ‘starting line’ may be. The selling point for me above all was my third beginners class and we had a metcon in which I don’t think I would’ve pushed through without Shonda and Josh by my side and the rest of the Furions cheering me on. At that moment I knew I found the place I would hope to spend my ‘me time.’ Well now I’m four months in and even if my schedule conflicts with my reservations I have learned so much to compensate for a missed class at home. (Even though it’s nothing compared to actually going!).
This continues to be a great experience for me and I have met so many amazing people so far. I don’t plan to leave any time soon that’s for sure. I’m excited to see what the next four months bring me before my wedding because Furion has already helped me drop 15-20 lbs, and regain my confidence all around! ‘Tis my story!! 😊 Thank you!!!
I started CrossFit after having shoulder surgery. I started gaining weight again, and my regular gym workouts were not working. I was always skeptical about CrossFit but thought I would give it a try, with the help of a Groupon, of course. CrossFit helped me get stronger and overcome a lot of deficits related to my shoulder injury. I was told by my doctor that I would never lift weight over my head again and I would never be able lift any heavy weights again.
With the help of the great coaches at CrossFit Furion, I proved that doctor wrong. I love the motivational and supportive environment. I also love the varied workouts so it never gets old. I was worried that everyone would better than me and I would not be able to keep up. I quickly learned that is not what CrossFit is all about. I was also worried that the coaches would ignore my pre-existing injury. Once again, this was not true. Carlo really helped me through this without injuring myself further.
I was really bored with my regular gym, and I needed a change of pace. Matthew Scott told me about the free community class at Furion, so I decided to check it out. I knew I’d be back after that first class almost immediately! Two and a half years later, I am so much stronger than when I walked through the door for the first time! Stronger than I probably ever thought I could be actually.
It’s also been a great way to relieve the stresses of everyday life. The most challenging workouts leave me feeling the best mentally. I love so many things about it – the community, the amazing friends I’ve made (Amy’s right, Furion is truly a second family), hanging out with everyone before and after class, eating healthier, the excitement of finally accomplishing something that you’ve been working so hard for, the PRs that keep everyone coming back for more, and watching everyone else get stronger every single day.
I was nervous about coming into an environment where I felt like everyone knew so much more than me. And everyone seemed so strong, it was intimidating, but that went away pretty quickly. The first few weeks, I just took everything in, because there was so much to learn (terminology, techniques, etc.).
I started CrossFit after moving to New Jersey and wanted to make friends who had like-minded interests. It has helped me make friends, but not only that, it has put me in a better place in my life. Given me more confidence in myself, which is something I have always struggled with. I love being challenged every day I walk into the gym and cheering someone else on while they push through a workout! The amount of dedication I see from others in the gym makes me want to push myself even harder every day. I feel that when you are with strong, driven people, it pushes you to put your absolute best out there and keep pushing towards your own goals as well.
